Well, that is one way of doing it! I have never heard of doing a BIOS
upgrade from Linux before, myself.

My way would be:
 - note your model number & asset tag
 - go to www.dell.co.uk (or your regional equivalent)
 - go to Support
 - enter the asset tag
 - see if any BIOS updates were available
 - get the DOS-based installer, if available
 - make a DOS boot floppy (or USB key or CD)
 - boot system from DOS, update BIOS from there

That's the "old fashioned" way that I still use. No Linux tools needed or used.
