Yet another no-sound thread!

My Kubuntu 9.10 installation no has no sound! I have gone through all
the "fixes" on the follonwing wiki page to no avail:

One interesting thing is that two devices are set to 00 sound, and I
cannot increase them:

Note that they are not muted, but at 00. Why is that, and if alsamixer
cannot increase the volume on them, then how can I?
