Installing Ubuntu in a very poor performace machine...

Those are important to me.  I use the desktop zoom and color inversion
due to my vision.  Would I need to install anything to get the Compiz
"bells & whistles" working with LXDE/Lubuntu or Xubuntu?  I'd assume
if I install LXDE on an existing Ubuntu install Compiz is already
installed so I wouldn't have to worry about redownloading it, right?
