Maybe, but only with the Expressgate sound-configuration utilities
(loaded not from ROM but from a Windoze-installed FAT directory), I
think, because Windoze (9x/XP/7) can use the mic after selecting the
right jack.
I have already updated that directory three major versions above the MB CD.

Better than that, I was advised im local LUG to re-install the current
kernel with:-
sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-image-$(uname -r)
which has worked a treat to restore the speakers-only condition

No, indeed, I knew that, but was mistaken that it would be easy to undo.
It certainly didn't improve the GUIs inability to select the mic.
Now I need to find the correct module arguments etc to manually edit in
/etc
I'm told that should work, but so far can only find redirecting speaker
output, not selecting mic jacks.
Anybody done this?
