The buttons are already on the right in Karmic! Anyway, the command
gconftool-2 -s /apps/metacity/general/button_layout -t string <layout>
is to set the button layout where within <layout>
"minimize" is the minimize button, etc
and the position of ":" determines whether these buttons are placed
right or left. So
"close,minimize,maximize:"
is the new Lucid default,
"menu:minimize,maximize,close"
is the pre-Lucid default,
and, if you do not want the "menu" button, you can set the layout to
":minimize,maximize,close"
