I am only guessing here and my comment(s) may be totally inappropriate
to your situation.

I had a hassle getting sound in my installation of Lucid. I fiddled
about and did 2 things: firstly I ensured that I was part of the AUDIO
group as a user. Secondly, I clicked on the Loudspeaker icon in the
(?)TaskPanel, selected Sound Preferences>Hardware and, by trial and
error, chose the correct Sound Profile for the sound card. I then
rebooted the system. Which of these was the correct one I fiddled I
don't know but I then got sound. Oh, also make sure that nothing is muted.
