Rotate Wallpaper Automatically

I'm grateful for the helpful suggestions and I'll try the software
solution. But having raised the question I set about solving it
myself, and soon found a script to do the job. I also found Gnome
Schedule Tasks, which looks like a really simple front end for cron
jobs.
The script works: I've got two copies of it, one in my home folder and
one in /usr/local/bin where I keep another script I use occasionally.
Anyway. I set it as executable and I can run either version and the
wallpaper changes. I used the task scheduler to automate the running
of my script on reboot: and it doesn't.
As far as I can see I've completed the fields correctly. So if I want
to find out what's wrong I guess I need to look at the actual cron job
but I don't know how or where to find it and what it should look like
when I do.
