Change icon for application system wide

Right click on the file in question.

In the resulting window click on the icon image.  Navigate to and chose 
the image you would like to use for your icon.  Click open.  This should 
set the icon system wide I believe.  The location for most of the system 
icons is,

     /usr/share/icons/
