Yes, you're right, have to hit 'e' twice.

Mirjafar, don't worry about the steps here. You will not mess up 
anything here. If anything goes wrong, you can always go back by hitting 
'esc' (I think, Noop can correct me here again if I'm wrong, not on 
legacy since grub2) and anyway, it is, as Noop repeated, temporarily and 
not set yet. Just take care at "gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst".

But please just do the reinstall grub first. The above may be unnecessary.
