Right.

Sorry, I think I misunderstood what you meant with "automatic 
configuration". I thought of automatic switching between wired and 
wireless networks. :)

Depends on what you mean by "shut down". If you mean "disconnect the 
wireless link", then yes, Wicd can do it. But if you mean "turn off the 
wireless port" (e.g. to save energy), then I'm not so sure if Wicd can 
do it.
