Sorry if this has been said before, I'm just dropping into this
thread.  When top posting - which btw is quite usual in business
environments mails tend to accumulate wasting bandwidth by
retransmitting the same stuff over and over again.  If you want to
limit this effect you have to go versus the end of of a long message
cutting down outdated stuff.  Also, if used incorrectly, attachments
are retransmitted on every mail - another waste of resources.  IMHO
it's easier to keep old mails for reference than retransmitting them,
but I developed my email habits when both bandwidth and disk space
were extremely scarse resources and when it was not uncommon to send
the full X source code to an opponent in a flame war.
