I got to the pooint where I caould capture images with the A520, using
the standard gphoto2 shipping with Intrepid (2.4.0). Here is what I
did, step by step:
Plug in camera, unmount.
Do a ps auxw | grep -i gphoto, then kill that process
(gvfs-gphoto-volume-something).
Turn off camera, turn camera back on.
$ gphoto2 --camera "Canon PowerShot A520 (PTP mode)" --port usb:
--set-config=capture=on
The lens should extend.
$ gphoto2 --camera "Canon PowerShot A520 (PTP mode)" --port usb: --capture-image
It should take a picture and store it on the camera.
I'm way behind on work today, so I can't mess around w/this - but if
you can get to that point, then it seems quite possible that you could
find (or code) a script or program that does this stuff automatically.
I did not try setting any of the Canon's options, but gphoto2 should
be able to do some of it - but I'm not sure how much.
It sort of depends on your use case though - are you wanting to do
time lapse, motion sensing, webcam, or what?
