Nokia Smartphone Connectivity Suite for Linux?

Hey all,
I bought myself a new Nokia N97. It's not my first - I had E71, 6120c, 6288
and 6680 - All by Nokia.
I never found a good enough application similar to Nokia's PC Suite in
functionality and looks...
How hard can it be?
I would tackle this myself - if I knew how...
I am now looking for a way to convert videos to a format supported by the
N97. I would like to have a GUI application where I could choose my phone
model and add the videos to a list and then converting them and just copy
the file to my phone.
I tried using ffmpeg in the CLI, but I don't know what are the optimum
settings for Bit Rate, Aspect Ratio, resolution and A/V Codecs...
I got cropped or stretched picture, or "Type not supported" error or just
audio.
Can someone point me to an existing project?
I could get by with the CLI (if someone provides me with the correct
options) but I am looking for something I can "sell" to a tottal noob - I am
trying to convince my Mom to switch to Linux, and this is one of the uses I
could not find an alternative for.
Thanks!
