Both XUbuntu and Ubuntu use the X Window System.  Please note it is
singular and not plural.  The OS is the same.  The only major difference
is the window manager which sits on top of X which in turn sits as an
application on top of the OS. Ubuntu is Gnome and XUbuntu is Xfce.  You
can switch between the two if you want.  Xfce is a lighter weight window
manager than Gnome.
