Exchange is _the_ vendor lock-in tool of M$. One exchange server and all your clients are garanteed Windooz!
Have a Google for Zimbra, IIRC they have some tools compatible with Exchange. And it's at least open source, not sure whether it's free software.

Thunderbird+lighting will do google calendar, I sync between Laptop
(jaunty_64), berry, web access some basic coordination dates with others
and works very well.
