KDE doesn't have that option (at least in 4.x < 4.3 - I haven't tried 4.3 
yet).  I run an xrandr script at KDE login time, and on resume from 
hibernation, to set it.

Basically:
  xrandr --output VGA1 --auto  --right-of LVDS1

(your screen names may differ - on Intrepid, mine were VGA and LVDS.   I 
have no idea when the '1' got tacked on).
