Please tell us which wireless network card you have. You can find out 
with the command

sudo lshw -C network

in a terminal (if you don't already know the type). Furthermore, how did 
you try to connect to the WPA2 network? Did you use network manager or 
wicd?

BTW: Some older wireless cards are not WPA2 capable. Did you try if it 
works with WPA? Granted, WPA isn't secure but it is at least worth to 
try it.
