Again, it sounds like you had a poor upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04. At
least thousands of users are VERY happy with 9.04. My own experience has
been VERY good both on this computer and my laptop. So have an odd
computer or a bad update.
I suggest you load 9.04 into a new partition and see if it works better.
