rv250 (radeon 9000) black screen in Compiz (Karmic)

I loaded up the RC of Karmic on my test box (Radeon RV250 a.k.a. Radeon
9000) and found that my screen background goes black when I enable
Compiz (application windows are still visible).  Nothing is found when
Compiz is "Searching for available drivers" or when the "Hardware
Drivers" app is run.

Has anybody else seen this and/or have a workaround?
