Problem exists in X as well as in VT.

Yes, I know. My first contact with X was in 1995, on Unix. Everybody at
the university preferred the big 19" b/w monitor of the Unix terminals
over the tiny 15" monitors of the pc's with Win3.11 or (ooh, shiney!)
Win95.
