/var is getting full

If you look at
http://www.debianadmin.com/backup-and-restore-your-ubuntu-system-using-sbackup.html
(around the second half of the page), you will see that your file is named
according to the standard naming convention of sbackup.
So yes, you can delete it without worries if you are now using another
backup method.
