install fails on hp 8513 (500 MHz P III)

When trying to run Unbuntu 9.04 from CD bootup, I get initial screens OK, choose try without changing your PC option, then after much disk activity:

0.000000 ACPI: no DMI BIOS year, acpi=force is required to enable ACPI
4.223893 IO APIC resources could not be allocated
