Sorry, that's just Karl, whose first mission in life is to give really bad 
advice, and his second is to be offensive.

Then that's all you need.  Burn the Ubuntu .iso of your choice to the DVD, 
boot off the DVD, choose the option to install the OS, and when it gets to 
the question about how to partition your drive, just tell it to erase 
everything and use the whole drive.
