Grub 2 in Jaunty/Karmic can break double boot configuration

Now, most of them, which somehow reduces the thrill of experimenting.

What I did was a very standard Synaptic install of grub2 on my Jaunty
and it clearly messed up just because my root was not at (hd0,0), very
primitive indeed.

If grub2 is the choice for Karmic I guess it should be less buggy. I
read that every grub2 updating in karmic was resetting boot parameters
to standard, certainly annoying, hope it is already corrected. Losing
the ability to boot can be very scary to a newbie.
