@ Karl (don't matter NM time :-) Have a look in Synaptic & try one of
the other repositories. ubuntu.cd.utah.edu seems to be zipping right
along at the moment. Of course once everyone jumps over to that one it
will get bogged down as well.
  Note: be aware that not all of the mirrors are fully updated & you'll
get 404's on them. Example: mirror.math.ucdavis.edu.

Best bet, is to take oli's advise & just be patient.
