lapack Shared library help Needed

Hello,

I am trying to build "Clapack" shared library on Ubuntu 9.04 with the
following command

blackhole:~/Desktop/CLAPACK-3.2.1$ gcc -shared -o libclapack.so *.o

and I get the following message and I am quite sure that I compiled the
source code with -fPIC option. Where things have gone bad ? Can
someone help ?

/usr/bin/ld: dlamch.o: relocation R_X86_64_32S against `a local symbol' can
not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC
dlamch.o: could not read symbols: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
