Gnome 9.10 Nautilus links over FTP

On one of my web sites I have a link to a directory way above docroot.
I use "Connect to server..." in the "Places" menu and use "FTP with login".
Works like a Lotus Super 7 and it sees my link "php-class".
However, as you see, both when you click on the it and look at the property
sheet, Nautilus claims the link is broken (how sad).
When you use good old pre-historic lftp then all is fine.
It also works fine with gFTP.
My question is: Should Nautilus not be able to deal with links via FTP?
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
// php-class Properties //

// Link target: /var/www/clients/php-class //

// Volume: ftp as seservercarl on fiskeryd.com //

// The Link "php-class" is //
// Broken. Move it to Trash? //
// //
// This link cannot be used, because its target "/var/ //
// www/clients/php-class" doesn't exist. //
// //
// Cancel Move to Trash //

When I use lpft to go to the same place, the link is working perfectly:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 0 0 26 Aug 30 12:25 php-class ->
/var/www/clients/php-class
lftp seservercarl at fiskeryd.com:/web> cd php-class
cd ok, cwd=/web/php-class
lftp seservercarl at fiskeryd.com:/web/php-class>
