touchpad problem on 9.04 to 9.10 upgrade

Thanks. I added the edited the grub/menu/1st file to add 
vmlinuz-2.6.31-14-generic as a boot option. Rebooted and all is OK. Is 
there still a way to manually enable/disable the touchpad?
