update notifier

Hi,
update-notifier didn't show icon in notification area when updates
available, and if I want to see available updates I must run
update-manager manually.
update-notifer present in GNOME startup applications, and it present in
running processes:

ps -el | grep update-notifier
0 S  1000  2258  2032  0  80   0 -  7404 poll_s ?        00:00:00
update-notifier

How i can fix this little problem?
