its server modes against your nick, set by server and by you, some umodes 
you can unset some you can not.

more popular ones are +x if registered on undernet to protect your true 
hostmark from normal users, some other networks do similar with +i, you 
can use +d to make your client "deaf" this means you will not see any
channel chit chat, but will still get private messages and joins/parts 
etc. User modes differ between networks, what is +i on one may not be +i 
on another, but some, like +d are one of the uniform umodes.
