Second that one...

Something is very very definitely killing your system.

Is an internal machine, or one on the Internet ?

How much physical RAM is there in the machine
What services is it providing ? (mail/web/samba etc?)
The output of top - does it show many instances of a single process ???
(e.g. 60 instances of httpd)
