I don't know whether my situation was unusual but I installed using
wubi and it worked fine for a few weeks then I had a windows crash and
it seems it damaged the wubi file so that ubuntu would no longer boot.
I re-installed with a dual boot with Ubuntu on its own partition and
all has been well since. So from my experience I would not recommend
wubi.
