Hello Norman,

I know your trials and tribulations. I've been to all those places myself.
You do well in switching to Ubuntu. You won't repent. The first problem I
see is that you did not download the most convenient version of Ubuntu. The
*alternate* i386 requires that you make a lot of choices when installing.
The easy and intuitive almost automatic installation is the *desktop i386
Karmic Koala 9.10*. You will get the ISO image. You still have to make the
installable CD. You'll find instructions on the Ubuntu page. This CD will
guide you through the installation seamlessly so you can have both Windows
and Ubuntu on the same hard disk. If you are brave enough, you can also
choose to get rid of Windows altogether and have Ubuntu in the entire disk
(make backups first in either case).
