I've been asking one other person with some experience with 9.10 & 3g, 
and I'm quoting part of his response:
"Hmm, there is no reason why it should not work with 9.10 if it works 
with 9.04. The only problems seems the upstart parallel init, sometimes 
loading the firmware using gobi isnt fast enought. But it works if i 
call gobi_loader by hand (sometimes more than once). If he uses the 
network manager to make the ppp connection there is another problem, the 
network manager dont catch up the newly modem-device. I cannot try if 
restart of modem-manager (kill -s SIGHUP `pidof modem-manager`) would 
help, because it isnt my netbook. Its a friend of mine...  :)

And no, the gobi_loader isnt built in, i have compiled it as usual, but 
it works with 9.10 without big problem (as not writte above)."
