 Good point  about inline quoting. Don't have much use for it but there are those occasions.

Gmail's handling of quoting is dumb.  It doesn't respect inline quoting
and encourages unnecessary quoting.  It tries to solve a problem already
solved by much smarter MUAs, pretending as if only slightly dumber MUAs
already exist.

I use Mutt and can toggle hiding of quoted text using toggle-quoted
(defaults to 'T' key).  Even better is using skip-quoted (defaults to
'S' key) to jump to the next block of unquoted text.
