Ubuntu 9.04.
I'm new to TV on Linux so in need of a little hand-holding.
>From searching I found that I needed to make firmware available.
So, I downloaded and now have:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 12332 2009-05-28 15:01 /lib/firmware/dvb-fe-xc5000-1.1.fw
When I connect the USB TV tuner I end up with these devices:
$ ls -l /dev/dvb/adapter0/
total 0
crw-rw----+ 1 root video 212, 4 2009-05-28 15:53 demux0
crw-rw----+ 1 root video 212, 5 2009-05-28 15:53 dvr0
crw-rw----+ 1 root video 212, 3 2009-05-28 15:53 frontend0
crw-rw----+ 1 root video 212, 7 2009-05-28 15:53 net0
I have installed the tvtime application, but when I start it it says
cannot open capture device /dev/video0.
Note: I do have a Logictech webcam and when that is plugged in I do
have a /dev/video0, but it doesn't work with tvtime (tvtime responds
very slowly and the camera light cycles on and off).
Again, I'm new to Linux TV, and I'm still trying to grasp what exactly
"dvb" is and if tvtime needs to be pointed to a different device.
Thanks,
BTW -- the tuner works fine on OS X, but the tuner came with a Mac
application for using the tuner.
Google does turn up hits of Linux users with this device, but I have
not been able to get any of their examples working either.
Here's syslog output when the device is connected:
