Over the last 360 days Karl has posted ~1702 items to the list.

That is 1702 out of 37867 posts in total. (Rough figures)

The issue is that we seem to be answering questions that are not related 
to technical support and so turning this list is into a general 
discussion list.

The following would probably be of help:
1. Only respond to on topic discussions.
2. When a thread is off topic quote that this list is "Ubuntu user 
technical support, not for general discussions" and them move on.
3. If there is a off topic thread and some has already done step 2 leave 
the thread to die.
4. Do not create more threads like this.
