I gave up at that time, instead, I bought ubuntu desktop dvd 8.10 hoping
that there would be a correction after ubuntu 8.04.1
Same problem then followed your instructions above. After entering
about:config in the urlbar for firefox, the first mesage is
"this might cancel your warranty........be carefull... enter...
I set it to false but still firefox won't connect. John
