Help with cross-over cable connection

Same way you do with a regular cable.  Many modern ethernet cards with
go into 'cross over' mode automatically if required.

If you are trying to ask how you make a connection without a DHCP server
present on the LAN, then the answer is use avahi, or manually assign ip
addresses on the same lan.
