Norman, I dont know your level of education with computers so, Im going
talk like Im talking to my dad - (who has just enough to do almost
nothing) and go step by step.
1) Do you have a phone in the room with the computer? If so, be sure to
use the DSL Filter.
2) If you are looking at the back of the router with the antenna to the
left, on the far right is a single ethernet plug.. that is where the
cable from the wall goes in.
3) Plug the ethernet cable from your computer into one of the other four
ports.
4) Plug in the power to the router.
5) Look at the lights:
The power light should blink and then turn steady green.
Any other color and there is a problem.
Broadband light should blink and then turn steady green.
Blinking or any other color and there is a problem.
One of the other lights will be green as well, which indicates that that
port is connected to your computer.
If all of that is ok....
6) Go to System > Administration > Network Tools.
On the Devices Tab where it says Network Device select Ethernet
Interface (eth0) and look at your IP address. It should be some type of
number like 192.168.x.x where the x is some number.
If is not at all like the above number, the router is not assigning you
a correct IP.
Please post that IP if difference.
7) Type 192.168.1.254 into the address bar of your browser. This will
bring you to the router interface.
If your ISP requires you to put in a username and password, you might
have to do this in the router settings. But before getting into that,
work on the above and post the list back.
