I don't really understand how moving to Arch is going to help your  
stability issues (nor how Arch is not cutting edge... it is a rolling  
release, Ubuntu by design is *less* cutting edge).

I've had a long time experience with self-maintained (more or less)  
distros and eventually realized that having almost everything working out  
of the box allowed for better productivity than having to make everything  
work out of the box myself.
