Strange problems with file system after upgrade

I was running Ubuntu 8.10 for a long time.  Recently, I upgraded to 
Ubuntu 9.04 and I've been having serious problems with disk all of the 
sudden.   I've seen this kind of thing several times online and wanted 
to ask if anyone knew of any kernel instability issues or other problems?

The odd part of this is that I started having disk instability issues 
the day after I upgraded to the 9.04 distro.  I've even downloaded the 
9.04 CD and tried a clean installation.  Any ideas?
