I had a similar problem when I was thirteen. Then it was electronics and high
voltage. I had to convince my parents to trust me enough so I would not get
myself killed. This involved convincing them that I knew enough not to get
myself killed. As a parent, I see their point about the internet.

I suggest you sit sown with them and explain your problem. Explain that you
need occasional internet access to get software. In your discussions with
them, stress that this is helping you learn about how computers work --
parents like that. Try and work out a way so you can have a supervised
internet connection while you get your updates and software. You probably will
not get it on your first try, but be patient, be persistent and don't be
obnoxious. Thirteen was forty years ago from me, but I think they will
probably find a way to accommodate your needs if you convince them you are not
trying to subvert their authority.

They are only trying to keep you safe.
