using ejabberd as a chat server

I currently attempting to make a chat server using ejabberd in my ubuntu
server. I have made it work in ubuntu server as I can open the web admin for
ejabberd in the client web browser. but the real problem is that I can't
seem to get my jabber client to connect to ejabberd. I have tried pidgin,
psi, gajim and the last kopete but it always refuse to connect. can you all
tell me what I have done wrong? it's just that I can access ejabberd web
admin through firefox in client computer but I can't seem to get it to
connect through ejabberd server using jabber client. anyone has experienced
in using ejjaberd as a chat server?
