I would second mpd. There is a little knack to get it working right
(nothing too bad), but then you can control it with something like Ario or
Sonata in the gui, and ncmpc when you're in the console (or MPoD if you
have an iTouch/iPhone :) ). Sound should continue regardless of where
you're running it, or if you even have a client running.
