It sounds like you want debian stable. KDE 3.5.10 and a whole bunch of rock
solid software.

Also, OpenSUSE, Fedora, Slackware, Sidux, and Arch (last three for advanced
users only!) all offer better KDE4 implementation than Kubuntu.
