Adding DHCP to system that was installed with no network access

Sorry for the delay in posting back. This is a friends' machine and he
was gone for the weekend.
The system in question has already been destroyed, overwritten with
Mythbuntu. But I will keep the suggestions handy for the next time I
encounter the situation.

As I install KDE instead of Gnome, I do prefer a CLI way to handle
these situations. Also, as in the case of my mother-in-law's computer,
often I only have CLI access (SSH).
