rename appears useless in Ubuntu

I did exactly that, with my loop, and stuck it in /usr/local/bin as 
"nospace", which is what I had done in PCLOS, with the "real" rename 
(not prename).
Of course, now I know I could have used my original script, and just 
renamed rename to rename.ul...

<ot-rant>man...how am I ever to get any work done, while on this list...
anyone else have a problem with this?  too much fun "conversing" about 
ubuntu, too many messages...and I'm supposed to be translating French 
software manuals...doh...</ot-rant>
