That would be near impossible. I am calling for a fixed database and
metadata definition for user info for use by service applications like
asterisk, dovecot, postfix, what-have-you and I bet even on just this
integration there is going to be a lot of contention within a distro let
alone cross-distros. A fixed database and metadata definition will allow
the creation of a user management tool that will handle integrate the
configuration for those services that use it for user information.
Then there is the difference in service management. You want all distros
to agree on one system to handle service startup but Debian has its own,
Redhat has its own, Suse has its own. Which one do you want to make the
standard?
