Cannot see Samsung u900 as Mass Storage device

The wife just bought a Samsung u900 cellphone which has several option
for connecting to a computer. When the "PC Suite" option is selected,
I can see the device in lsusb. Obviously I cannot do anything with it.
When I set the device to USB Mass Storage it doesn't even show up in
lsusb. Checking on the neighbour's Windows computer proves that it
does in fact work on that operating system.

Any ideas on how to proceed? Thanks!
